Let's Go Back! Internal VIPs

Do you have a Back of the House Strategy that communicates to each team member that they are part of something special? We continually tell front line people how important they are, that they are your VIP Internal Guests.

Yet it has been in my experience that their parking area is not well kept, employee entrance ways tend to be dreary, and overfilled ashtrays seem to be the norm. Back halls are often drab without thought to color, employee mindset, or your properties values, beliefs, systems, and attitudes. Break rooms are often just places to hang out. Even the hallway leading from the break room to the gaming floor are rarely managed well. One client of mine designed their entranceway onto the Gaming Floor to look like a theater. Yes, they had the red drapes and everything!

Above the door; a sign read - "Show Time!"

It was something small, but it was a start, and I applauded them for it! Your back of the house areas need to reflect the positive entertainment culture of your property. I would recommend assessing one's break room and other back of the house areas from the perspective of colors, coordination of seating options, fun activities to relieve stress, and positive informative messaging.

You may want to consider employing flat screens as internal newsletters. You can communicate upcoming promotions, reinforce ways of being, and celebrate team accomplishments and even birthdays...
